CuChulainns draw with North London Shamrocks
June 28, 2018
CúChulainns were unlucky to come away with just a draw against North London Shamrocks, in Round 3 of the Division One Football league, on Sunday in Greenford.
The men from North London started better: opening up a 3 point lead. Cús responded with points from Brendan Breen, Conan O’Brien and Fiachra McArdle before conceding a goal to keep the gap at 3 points. The red men had started to grow into the game at this stage though and made it count by notching a goal and a beautiful Shane McWeeney point to leave the sides level at 1-5 apiece at half time.
The second half was again a tight affair with both teams being made to work for every score. McArdle and O’Brien scored their 2nd points from play as Cús patience was paying off. Fitness also seemed to be on CúChulainns side - Cianan Byrne soloed in from the end line to fist over and McArdle converted two frees to open up a two point lead. They then had chances to put the game to bed. A quick free kick to Breen opened up the NLS defence, he layed it off to McWeeney but his goal-bound shot was saved by the onrushing keeper and McArdle’s pointed effort from the rebound flashed wide. Shamrocks then found a new lease of life in the last few minutes and broke up the pitch to score two points and level the game. Liam Barry brought the game to end and frustration for the Cús.Final Score: CúChulainns 1-10, North London Shamrocks 1-10.
The boys are back in Ruislip this Saturday for the first time since their epic Intermediate Championship final victory back in September. They face Parnells in Round 4 of the League.
